We had just moved into our new home in New York when my daughter, like she’d discovered a new world, excitedly told me, “Dad, I saw a finger on the wall!”

I didn’t believe such a strange thing could happen. I quickly followed my daughter into the room to check. What she pointed out to me was actually a fingerprint. This fingerprint on the white wall was like a leaf floating in the ocean, hardly noticeable. It was amazing that my daughter had spotted it.

My daughter asked whose fingerprint it was. I said it must be from the painter who had painted the walls. Then she asked who had painted the walls. The painter who had worked on our house a few days ago was now painting the neighboring building. I could see him from our window, so I pointed him out to my daughter. The painter was a big – built man. My daughter didn’t believe someone so clumsy – looking could paint such smooth walls. I said, “If you don’t believe it, go and see for yourself.”

After watching the painter at work, my daughter came back excitedly and said, “Dad, the walls that uncle painted are really smooth.” I took the opportunity to teach my daughter, “There are many capable people in small towns. Don’t judge people by their appearance and never look down on them.” My daughter nodded seriously and said, “Got it.”
