I’m determined to marry him chapter 3
by Mary PetersWho wouldn’t want to have such a capable relative? Smoking the cigarettes, the villagers thought that compared with David, Jack had money and power. So, when Tom later mentioned the village – wide election to choose a son – in – law, everyone said that such a capable son – in – law was hard to find. They all said they would choose Jack, thinking that they could also benefit from this relationship.
The news that Tom was leading Jack to canvass votes soon reached Lily’s ears. Lily never expected this and was stunned, not knowing what to do. David was also at a loss. Lily said angrily, “How could my father do this?”
David said listlessly, “Forget it. They’ve already finished canvassing votes. I think I won’t even go to the election tonight. It’ll just be embarrassing for me.”
Lily still wanted to give it a try. She looked at David with disappointment and said, “David, if they can canvass votes, why can’t you?”
David frowned, “Canvassing votes costs money. I don’t have that kind of spare money.”
“You can just think of something. They’re all our neighbors. You don’t have to bring gifts. Just go to each house and sit for a while.”
Although David didn’t have much hope, at Lily’s urging, he decided to go from door to door to give it a try. When he entered the first house, the owner immediately knew his purpose and started lecturing him, “David, don’t overestimate yourself. To be honest, Jack’s conditions are really better than yours. He has money and power. Everyone will definitely choose him. I think you should give up. There are other girls in the world besides Lily. You can find another one.”
David lowered his head and said, “Uncle, I know it’s self – humiliation to compete with Jack, but Lily is forcing me to do this. I’m like a man riding a tiger. I can’t get on or off. I just hope I won’t lose too badly.”
Uncle shook his head and said, “I don’t think you have a chance. As far as I know, everyone is inclined to choose Jack.”
David said, “If I get zero votes, I’ll be so embarrassed. If this bad reputation spreads, who will marry me in the future? I’ll just have to be a bachelor for the rest of my life.” He looked at Uncle pitifully, “Uncle, I know everyone will choose Jack. He doesn’t need your vote. Please vote for me to save me from the embarrassment of getting no votes.”
Uncle softened his heart. After all, he had watched David grow up and was more affectionate towards him. He thought for a while and said, “Okay. Anyway, everyone is going to vote for Jack. I’ll vote for you.”
Immediately, David was extremely grateful and said repeatedly, “Thank you, Uncle. I’m counting on you. With your vote, I won’t get zero votes.” After thanking Uncle many times, he left.
Lily was waiting at the door. When she saw David come out, she quickly asked, “How was it?”
David said, “Uncle agreed to vote for me.” He told Lily what had happened. The more Lily listened, the brighter her eyes became. She grabbed David and pulled him to a secluded corner. Happily, she said, “David, you have a chance.”
David said, “What chance? I only have one vote so far.”
