Happy holidays, Mom! chapter 1
by Sergio Brewer{{Wish
Mother’s Day was just two days away. After the evening self – study, several girls in a dormitory at a high school in the city started chatting. A girl named Lily asked, “What gifts are you going to give your moms on Mother’s Day?” Without waiting for others to answer, she said proudly, “My mom has the most beautiful hands. I’m going to buy her an emerald ring!”
Then, everyone started chatting animatedly. Some said they would give their moms a set of cosmetics, some said they would give a necklace, and one even said she would give a book with some interesting content about dealing with family issues…
The dormitory gradually quieted down, but Amy couldn’t fall asleep. When she heard Lily talking about her mom’s hands, a wave of sadness welled up inside her. Her mom’s hands were extremely rough. In winter, they would crack and the wounds wouldn’t heal even in summer. How wonderful it would be if her mom had a tube of hand cream at that time.
Amy thought that buying a tube of hand cream for her mom would surely make her happy. But a tube of hand cream cost about ten dollars. Where could she get the money?
However, she was determined to buy a tube of hand cream for her mom!
She thought of many ways to make money, but found that none of them were practical. Just after dinner, she heard Lily complaining again, “My dad only knows how to buy me books all day. My bookshelf is already full, and there are stacks of books by my bed and two cartons at the end of it. He just bought me several more! I’m going back to sell these books!” Amy’s heart skipped a beat. She said to Lily, “It’s a pity to sell them as waste paper. Sell your unwanted books to me. It’ll definitely be more worthwhile than selling them as waste.”
Lily glanced at Amy and curled her lips, “Do you think I’m short of your money?” Seeing that her words made Amy embarrassed, she changed her tone and pulled Amy’s hand, saying with a smile, “I’m just joking. Seriously, if you can help me get rid of those old books, I’ll really thank you. I’ll treat you to McDonald’s later, okay?”
Hearing this, Amy was overjoyed and asked Lily to go with her to get the books. At Lily’s home, she carefully selected dozens of books that were of little use to Lily, packed them in a big carton, and went back to school with Lily.
