Tomorrow’s Morning News chapter 4
by Matthew WeaverJack drove around Green Road for a long time but didn’t see Tom. So he parked his car by the side of the road and wanted to get out and breathe some fresh air on the steps. Tom, who was secretly following, was overjoyed when he saw Jack get out of the car. He just waited for Jack to come down the steps, then he would step on the accelerator and run Jack over, and then make a victorious escape in the thick fog. But he didn’t expect that “while the mantis stalks the cicada, the oriole lurks behind”. At this time, a fat figure appeared in the thick fog. It was the fat guy that Tom had sent to Jack’s house to rummage through things. Last time, Tom promised the fat guy a generous reward if he did the job, but later he kept on denying it. The fat guy had urged him many times, but to no avail, which made his partners turn against him.
At this time, the fat guy had just drunk some wine and was wandering alone on Green Road. Suddenly, he saw Tom’s car and staggered towards it. Tom was concentrating on watching Jack in front. Seeing Jack get back into the car and drive away, he was in a hurry. Just as he was about to step on the accelerator, he suddenly heard a sound of someone patting on the window. He was startled. When he saw it was the fat guy, he was both angry and annoyed. He shouted rudely, “Get out of here! I’m busy!”
The fat guy had come to teach Tom a lesson. When he heard this, he got even more angry. He suddenly took out a machete from his waist and smashed the car window with the handle. Tom was scared. While taking out his phone, he threatened, “Get away! I’m calling the police!” The fat guy stared at him with blood – red eyes and smashed the window even harder. With a “crack”, the glass broke, and the fat guy slashed at Tom’s head. Tom let out a strange scream, swayed a few times, and collapsed in the driver’s seat.
The scream echoed through half a street and sounded extremely miserable in the thick fog. Jack heard the sound and thought it might be Tom. He quickly drove over. Just as he turned the corner, he saw Tom’s car. The window was smashed, and he could vaguely see Tom slumped in the driver’s seat. It was very quiet around, and there was not a single soul in the thick fog. Jack quickly got out of the car and ran over with his camera, wanting to take photos of this extremely newsworthy scene. At this time, a fat guy suddenly emerged from behind the car, holding a blood – stained machete, and slashed at Jack’s forehead…
At the moment before his death, Jack remembered the “Morning News of Tomorrow” he had read tonight. He clearly remembered that the small news item in the middle column of the newspaper only mentioned Tom’s death. Why did he, Jack, have to die too? What bad luck! It seemed that he had encountered a false news item!
