There’s a Ghost in the Camera chapter 2

Hearing this, Tom’s curiosity was immediately piqued. He asked, “What special functions does it have?”

The man in sunglasses smiled mysteriously. “You’ll know when you take it home and try. It’s a secret that can’t be revealed.”

Tom took the camera and examined it. The man in sunglasses then took a photo of him. Yes, it was a genuine digital camera, but Tom couldn’t see any special features. The man in sunglasses seemed to read his mind and said mysteriously, “Sir, the first photo you take when you get home will show you this special function. Remember, take the photo alone in your room!”

Seeing the man’s mysterious look, Tom couldn’t resist his curiosity any longer. Thinking that it was quite a bargain to buy a camera for $200, he took out the money and bought it.

When he got back to his rented apartment, Tom couldn’t wait to take a photo of himself. Then he checked the result on the display screen. This sight really gave him a big shock. He noticed several lines of small words beside his photo. When he zoomed in, it read, “Ghosts are everywhere, but ordinary people just can’t see them. This camera has the function of capturing ghost images. Use it with caution.”

Tom was usually afraid of talk about ghosts and monsters. Suddenly seeing these words, his nerves tensed up immediately. He couldn’t help but take a photo of the sofa. When he looked at the image this time, Tom was so scared that his mouth stayed open. There was an extra face beside the sofa, a hideous male face with blood flowing from his eyes, nostrils, and mouth.

When Tom came to his senses, he let out a scream of “Oh my God!” and threw the camera on the sofa. He realized that there was a ghost in this room! He just couldn’t see it.

Just as he was at a loss, his girlfriend, Lily, came back. Seeing the digital camera on the sofa, she asked curiously, “Why did you suddenly decide to buy a digital camera?”

Afraid of scaring her, Tom quickly covered up by saying, “Of course not. A colleague asked me to keep it for him. Don’t touch it!”

Lily saw his strange behavior and asked further, “It’s just a camera. Why are you so nervous?”

“It would be bad if it gets broken. It belongs to someone else!” Tom said as he stood up and locked the camera in his drawer.

Lily was a bit unhappy. “There aren’t photos of other girls in it, are there?”

Tom knew that Lily had misunderstood him, but he had no mood to explain more to her. He always felt that the ghost was standing beside him, following him wherever he went. By the time it was time to go to bed, he really couldn’t stand it anymore. He said to Lily, “Let’s move to an apartment near your company. Don’t you always complain about the long commute to work?” Lily saw his distracted look all night and was puzzled when he suddenly said this. She asked, “What’s wrong with you? I used to suggest moving, but you always said it was too much trouble. Why do you suddenly want to take care of me?” Tom quickly replied, “I was wrong before. Why don’t you start looking for a new place tomorrow? Let’s move as soon as possible.”

Fortunately, everything went smoothly. By the weekend, they had moved into the new rented house. Tom still wasn’t completely at ease. When Lily was out, he took out the camera and took a photo of the TV. When he saw the image, he was so scared that he slumped onto the sofa. There was another ghost in the image. This time, it was a female ghost with a long tongue, disheveled hair, and all – white eyes. Oh my God! Were there really ghosts everywhere? He was so scared that he didn’t dare to take random photos anymore.

These two ghost photos really messed up Tom’s life. He was absent – minded at work and nervous and panicked at home, looking completely lost.

One day during dinner, Lily suddenly put down her chopsticks and said softly, “Let’s stop playing this game of hiding things from each other. You must be keeping something from me. If you have other ideas, just tell me directly!”
