The Murder by Phone chapter 5
by Michael GrayAbove the steel – plate sandwich? Sam reached up and felt. To his horror, he really felt a pistol.
A panicked Sam looked up. Just as he was about to say something to the police, he saw that all the policemen outside the booth had their guns pointed at his head. His face turned as pale as death, and the gun and the phone receiver in his hands both dropped to the ground with a “clatter”. Sam knelt down in front of the police, crying, “Please, don’t shoot! I’ve done a lot of bad things, but I really didn’t kill anyone. I’ll confess everything I’ve done. Please give me a chance to live…”
So, Sam stammered and told everything about how he took advantage of Lily’s autograph – signing opportunity to create fake IOUs, how he hired someone to kidnap the director’s son, and how he tried every means to steal other agents’ jobs. Just as he was talking, he suddenly saw the young man who was supposed to be dead on the ground stretch and get up. He shouted in horror, “Ah, why aren’t you dead? Something’s wrong, Officer. He’s not dead! I didn’t kill anyone. How can you say I’m a murderer?”
The police sneered, “Yes, he’s not dead. This is just a game specially designed for you by Paul. We’re all students from the police academy. We were just invited to participate in this game. To be honest, these guns are all fake. Of course, Paul took a big risk. If you had refused to confess, he would have faced various criminal charges…”
Sam’s face turned from white to green.
