The Murder by Phone chapter 1

What’s going on?

After the famous movie star, Lily, attended the launch ceremony of a new film, it was already late at night when she got home. She didn’t get up until noon the next day. Half – asleep, she heard someone knocking on the door desperately. When she got up to open the door, it was her agent, Paul, who rushed to see her. Paul handed her a copy of an IOU with Lily’s signature on it. When Lily saw it, she turned as pale as a sheet. “What’s going on? I didn’t… I didn’t owe anyone money!” A sudden thought flashed through her mind: When she walked out of the venue after the launch ceremony last night, hundreds of fans held all kinds of things and asked her to sign. Could someone have taken advantage of the chaos?

“Do you mean this IOU was signed last night?” Paul was extremely surprised. “Oh, right,” he seemed to remember something and quickly took out a sealed envelope from his pocket and gave it to Lily. “This was sent along with the IOU copy. Take a look.”

Lily opened it and saw the letter read: “There will be many more such IOUs! I’m Sam. I want to meet you.”

“Sam?” Paul gritted his teeth in hatred when he heard the name. Sam was the agent of another famous actress, Jessica, who was as well – known as Lily. Sam was usually very insidious and cunning. Last year, a big – budget movie worth hundreds of millions of dollars had already decided that Lily would be the leading actress. But in order to get Jessica the role, Sam hired someone to kidnap the five – year – old son of the film director. Under pressure, the director had to replace Lily. Many agents had fallen victim to Sam, but since they couldn’t find any evidence, they had to swallow their anger. Now he was using such a despicable trick again.

Paul rushed to the phone and picked up the receiver to call the police. But then he thought, Sam said he had IOUs with Lily’s signature. If they really went to court, they might not win. Moreover, the new film “The Final Showdown” had just started shooting. If there were any negative news at this time, Lily might not be able to be the leading actress again, and even her future in the industry would be affected.

“What should we do then?” Lily cried out in desperation. Paul thought: They couldn’t let things get out of control and be led by Sam. His mind raced, and then he got an idea.
