The Choice of a Billionaire chapter 2
by Molly HernandezCary and Elena let out a sigh of relief and rushed home immediately. They handed the golden key to the old Mr. Cary. The old man nodded and asked his son, “Apart from earning a thousand dollars and finding this golden key, what else have you gained?” Cary thought for a while and said, “I also understand that there are many ways to live. As long as you do it seriously, you can live a good life.”
The old man nodded in satisfaction. He used the golden key Cary brought back to open a delicate small box. Inside this small box was the real key to the safe. But Cary didn’t expect that what was left for him in the safe was not cash or a check, but a note and an agreement. The note read:
If you want to be an heir, tear up this agreement; if you want to be an entrepreneur, sign this agreement.
Looking at the agreement, it was actually a donation agreement. It stated that the old Mr. Cary and Cary had jointly decided to donate all the assets to a charity organization. The old man had already signed it. Obviously, he was waiting for his son’s decision.
The lawyer said to Cary, “You have three days to make a choice. Please think it over carefully before making a decision. If you sign it, you will lose the family fortune.”
Cary took the agreement and locked himself in the room.
Two days later, Cary brought the agreement to his father. The old man took it and saw that Cary had already signed his name. He was so excited that he nodded repeatedly, hugged his son, and his face was full of pride.
Cary also felt a weight lifted off his shoulders. He immediately called Mary and told her his decision. He thought Mary would be very happy because she no longer had to bear the burden of being with a billionaire. But to his surprise, as soon as Mary heard that he had donated all the family fortune, she started scolding him. She called him a fool, a jerk, a loser… Before hanging up the phone, she added, “Go to hell! Only a fool would marry you, a poor man!”
After hanging up the phone, it took Cary a long time to realize that Mary was also interested in his family’s billions. Maybe their encounter was all part of her pre – planned scheme.
Cary then asked Elena out. He informed her of his decision and then asked her with a smile, “I don’t have the family fortune anymore. When shall we cancel the engagement?”
Elena smiled calmly and said, “No, I’m actually thinking about marrying you!”
Cary was shocked.
Elena said seriously, “Your father asked for my opinion before making the donation decision. I supported him. I hope you can prove yourself through hard work! I love you and hope you can succeed. Even if you end up being just a small – business owner, I’ll be proud of you! I know you don’t love me yet, but I hope we can fall in love from now on. Do you agree?”
Cary looked at Elena, reached out his hands, and gently hugged her. He said, “I’m so glad that I gave up the billions, but I got you…”
