Gus replied calmly, “Gus.”

Sheriff Henry gave a sneering laugh and said, “You’re really good at pretending. You’re not Gus. You’re Nater, a wanted criminal who has been on the run for over a year!”

Gus smiled slightly, spread his hands and shrugged, saying, “Officer, you must be mistaken. I’m Gus. Nater is my younger brother. I’m his elder brother. We’re not the same person.”

The sheriff looked at him and asked in confusion, “But – how can you look exactly the same as Nater?”

Gus burst into laughter and said, “Nater and I are twin brothers. From the day we were born until now, we not only look alike but also have similar speech and behavior. However, there is one difference between us. That is – he is a wanted criminal on the run, while I’m a law – abiding citizen!”

Just then, the policemen who had been searching inside the house came out one by one and reported to the sheriff, “There is nothing suspicious in the house.”

After hearing this, the sheriff waved his hand, asking the other policemen to step aside. Then he took out a wanted poster with Nater’s fingerprints on it and said to Gus, “We can’t just take your word for it and assume you’re not Nater. Please hold out your right hand. I need to check your fingerprints.”

Gus cooperated very well and held out his right hand for the sheriff to check. The sheriff grabbed Gus’s right hand and carefully compared the fingerprints with those on the wanted poster. Finally, he sighed deeply and said to Gus, “I’m very sorry. We made a mistake and mistook you for Nater.”

Gus smiled easily and said, “It doesn’t matter. I hope you can catch Nater soon. He is an extremely evil devil. Although we are brothers, I won’t bend the law for personal gain.”

The sheriff highly appreciated Gus’s attitude. He waved his hand and said to the policemen around him, “Withdraw. Go back and report to the chief immediately!” Then the policemen got into the cars and left Gus’s residential building. After the policemen left, Gus entered his house. He locked the door, peeked out of the window to make sure there was no one around, then moved the wardrobe aside and clapped his hands. A man who looked exactly like Gus walked out from the false wall. This man was Gus’s twin brother, Nater. Gus said to Nater proudly, “They’re all gone. With our identical looks, those policemen can do nothing to us even if they have great skills!”

A year ago, Gus and Nater jointly robbed an armored truck and killed two security guards. From the very beginning, they had carefully planned and acted together. Nater did the dirty work in the open, while Gus provided support secretly. Then they used their special advantage of identical looks to deal with the police’s pursuit. Usually, one of them would hide at home while the other went out. Moreover, they rarely contacted other people. As a result, people thought Nater was the criminal and Gus was a law – abiding citizen. The small town had beautiful scenery, so they decided to settle down here. They bought a house and secretly dug a false wall. Unexpectedly, soon after they moved in, they caught the police’s attention, but they managed to get rid of the police easily.
