{{Stimulating Training}} chapter 2
by Margaret Boyd“Everyone Misses You”
The company commander randomly picked out a letter, showed it to all the recruits in the company, and then turned to David and said, “It’s a letter from your family. It’s from your sister. Do you want me to read it?” David nodded. The company commander read the letter first and then exaggeratedly held out his right hand to the whole company and said, “There are five ‘think’s in David’s family letter!” The recruits immediately got interested. The company commander glanced at David, who had already voluntarily lain down, and read, “Dear brother, how are you! After you joined the army, Mom misses you…” At this point, the company commander paused. For some reason, David felt an unprecedented warmth welling up in his heart and suddenly gained a lot of strength. Previously, doing push – ups was like going to the execution ground for him, but this time he didn’t feel annoyed at all. The company commander then continued, “Dad misses you, I miss you very much, and your neighbor, Tom, also misses you. Oh, and Lisa said she misses you too.”
As soon as the company commander finished reading the five “think’s”, David suddenly fell to the ground with a thud. The company commander was very puzzled and asked him, “What’s going on? You’ve only done a few and you’re down?” David lay on the ground, smiling wryly, and said, “Sir, you don’t know. Lisa in my sister’s letter is a crazy girl!” As soon as he said this, the recruits burst into laughter.
After doing dozens of push – ups and returning to the dormitory, David had an idea. He sent a registered letter to his sister, telling her to replace all the words related to “think” and “love” with other expressions in future letters. Sure enough, in the following weeks, David became the most relaxed person in the company. There were only one or two “love” and “think” words in his family letters occasionally. Looking at the other recruits doing hundreds of push – ups, David pretended to be envious and said, “You guys are so lucky. No one misses me!”
