Punish you to take an oath chapter 3
by Jennifer BenjaminThis was easy! The round – faced man stood at attention with a “snap” and raised his right hand towards Old Man Johnson. “I swear: I will keep my duties in mind, love my job, enforce the law civilly, serve the public warmly, cooperate with others, consider the overall situation, discipline myself strictly, and be honest and upright…” The round – faced man rattled off a series of oaths.
“Stop, stop, stop!” Old Man Johnson shouted with wide – open eyes. “So this is what taking an oath is like? If I had known this, I would have taken the oath ten times if you asked me to! Well, I’ve seen this kind of thing a lot. The local officials often talk like this. But just talking without doing anything is useless. No, you have to be serious!”
The round – faced man was stunned. “What do you mean by being serious?”
Old Man Johnson looked up at the sun in the sky and taught the round – faced man, “I swear here today that I’ll never fine people randomly or lock people up randomly again. If I don’t keep my word, I’m a scumbag, I’ll have no descendants, I’ll be struck by lightning, and I’ll never… ”
“This… this…” The round – faced man was dumbfounded. He opened his mouth but couldn’t bring himself to repeat the words.
