A Gamble of Life and Death chapter 1
by Sarah HoganThe Life – Gambling Game
The big drug lord, Odubowa, amassed a huge fortune by selling drugs. He had so much money that he couldn’t spend it all in his lifetime. So, as long as he could have fun, he didn’t care how much money he spent. Once, the drug lord came up with a new and exciting game. He was extremely excited, and within a few days, the game quietly started under his supervision.
This game was called the life – and – death gamble, and the gambling tool was a deck of playing cards. First, the drug lord randomly removed twenty cards from a complete deck. Then he distributed the remaining thirty – four cards in order to the people who came to participate in the gamble. They were all sitting around a large round table. Among these thirty – four cards, whoever got the Ace of Spades had to drink poison and go to hell. The rest of the people would each win a gambling prize of two hundred thousand yuan. If the Ace of Spades didn’t appear after all thirty – four cards were dealt, it would be a happy ending for everyone. This attracted many people with a glimmer of hope to take the risk.
This life – gambling game was held once a week, and it had been held twice so far. In the first game, one person got the Ace of Spades and died. In the second game, the Ace of Spades didn’t show up, and everyone got two hundred thousand yuan.
When the third life – gambling game was about to start, a fifteen – or sixteen – year – old boy came. The boy was tall and thin, with curly blond hair. There was a faint melancholy in his deep, big eyes. When the drug lord saw the boy, his eyes sparkled with joy. The participants in the previous two games were all adults, and the drug lord had seen their expressions at the gambling table so many times that there was no more novelty. He wanted to see something different and more exciting. The boy’s arrival was just what the drug lord wanted.
The drug lord walked up to the boy and said with a laugh, “Kid, are you also here to gamble your life?”
The boy looked him in the eye and said firmly, “Yes!”
The boy’s demeanor piqued the drug lord’s interest. He continued to tease the boy, “Aren’t you afraid of losing your life?”
“I’m scared, scared to death!” the boy said.
“If you’re scared, why do you still want to gamble?”
“Because I want to get a large sum of money.”
“Hehe, at such a young age, what do you need so much money for?” the drug lord asked.
“It’s useful. I want to use the money to buy something I’ve always wanted,” the boy said through gritted teeth.
“Good. You’re so ambitious at such a young age. Well done. Good luck to you!” The drug lord patted the boy on the shoulder, then left him to prepare for his exciting game.
