Tom was really both amused and annoyed by her words. He didn’t expect Lily to think this way. But thinking about his recent behavior, it was indeed easy for her to misunderstand. However, Tom didn’t know where to start, so he asked, “Lily, do you believe in ghosts?”

“What are you talking nonsense about?” Lily said unhappily. “If there are ghosts, they’re in your mind!”

Tom shook his head and swallowed back what he wanted to say. He told Lily that nothing was wrong and asked her not to think too much.

The next day, Tom’s colleague, Jack, was having a birthday and invited Tom and a few others to his house for drinks. Tom secretly brought the camera with him. While everyone was drinking, he quietly went to the bedroom and took a photo of Jack’s bed. When he saw the image, oh my God! A zombie – like ghost in a strange costume appeared.

Tom couldn’t hold it in anymore. He pulled Jack aside and warned him, “There’s something strange in this room. There’s a ghost!”

To his surprise, Jack not only wasn’t nervous but burst out laughing. “When did you become a wizard who can see ghosts?”

Tom got anxious when he heard this and argued, “It’s true. You just can’t see it!”

Seeing Tom being so serious, Jack was a bit unhappy. “I’ve noticed you’ve been distracted lately. Now you’re saying there’s a ghost in my house. What on earth are you thinking? You can’t have a guilty conscience!”

Tom had no more mood to drink. He rushed out of Jack’s house. Instead of going home, he went straight to the company. He wanted to confirm if there were ghosts in the company. The photo he took in the company really showed no ghosts, but this time, there were a few lines of words: “Go to 189 Elm Street alone at night, and you’ll gain magical power. Remember, go there alone!” Looking at the time, he still had enough time. He was eager to know what would happen next, so he decided to go there immediately.

On the way, his phone rang. It was Lily. “Where are you? I called Jack’s house just now. Jack said you left first. I’ve been waiting for you at home, but you still haven’t come back. Jack also hesitated and said you’ve been acting strange lately. He told me to take more care of you. What’s going on?”

Tom didn’t know what to say, so he casually replied, “I’m near the company. I have to go to the company to get something. I’ll be back soon. Bye for now.” On the other end of the phone, Lily was silent for a moment but said nothing.

When he arrived at Elm Street, he easily found number 187. Walking along the street, he saw number 188. But further ahead, there was a demolition site. So he asked a passer – by where number 189 was. The passer – by gave him a disdainful look and said, “Number 189 used to be a funeral home. It just moved.” Hearing this, Tom broke out in a cold sweat.

He didn’t even know how he got back home. When he entered the door, he found that Lily wasn’t there. Her phone was also turned off. He got really worried. Could it have something to do with the ghost at home? He couldn’t sit still. He grabbed his clothes and went out to look for her nearby. He saw Lily at a diner they often went to at the street corner. She was drinking alone, and there were already two empty bottles beside her. As soon as he walked over and was about to speak, Lily shouted, “Don’t tell me where you’ve been. I don’t want to know. You just want to break up, right? Why are you being so sneaky about it?”

Everyone around them was looking at them. Tom wished he could find a hole to hide in. But Lily didn’t care. She said, “You didn’t go to the company at all. Why are you lying to me? Do you really think I can’t get married? Humph…”

Tom knew she was a bit drunk. He dragged her back home forcefully. He knew that if he didn’t tell the truth, they might break up. So he told her the whole story from beginning to end.

After hearing this, Lily sobered up a bit. She snatched the camera and took a photo. When she saw the ghost image, she didn’t look as shocked as Tom expected. Instead, she nodded thoughtfully and said, “Let me use the camera for a day tomorrow. Don’t worry. I’ll find someone to get rid of the ghosts for you.”

Although Tom was a bit worried, he was afraid that if he stopped her, Lily would think more wrongly. So he nodded and agreed.

In the afternoon after work, as soon as Tom stepped out of the company, Lily came up to him and stuffed the camera into his arms. “Look, is this the man who sold you the camera? I took a photo of him secretly from a distance when I met him today. There’s also a ghost beside him!” Tom took a look and, sure enough, it was the man who sold him the camera. He said in surprise, “Do you know him?” Lily smiled and said, “If you had told me earlier, we would have caught the ‘ghost’ long ago. He’s a programmer and one of my online friends. He’s been pestering me to date him. I clearly told him about our relationship and said it was impossible. Then he came up with this strange idea. I’ve investigated. He just tampered with the camera. How despicable! But how could you believe such a thing? You’re such a fool!” Hearing this, Tom let out a sigh of relief, scratched his head and said, “So he’s the real ‘ghost’!”
