Sudden Changes in Fortune

Harris and his girlfriend Karen had been in love for over half a year, making solemn vows and being deeply infatuated with each other. However, fate had other plans. Just as Harris and Karen were planning their wedding, the doctor who gave them physical examinations delivered a shocking piece of news: Harris had cancer, and it was in the advanced stage. He was estimated to have less than a month to live.

The doctor’s diagnosis was like a thunderbolt out of a clear sky. Harris was so stunned that he almost fainted, and Karen cried her heart out. But despite her tears, she couldn’t marry a dying man. Before leaving, she said sadly to Harris, “Dear, I can’t marry you anymore. I hope you can forgive me.”

Harris was completely devastated and just waited for death to come. But a month passed, and there was nothing wrong with his body. Three months went by, and he didn’t even catch a cold. He was very puzzled and went to the hospital for another check – up. The result really surprised him. He had no illness at all. The so – called cancer was just a misdiagnosis by the hospital.

Harris was extremely angry. He took the hospital report to find Karen, but unfortunately, Karen had already got engaged to someone else. Disappointed, Harris thought indignantly, “I must find a girlfriend more beautiful than Karen and show her.”

Not long after, at a party, Harris met the charming Daisy. They fell in love at first sight and soon got involved in a passionate relationship. One day, just after getting engaged to Daisy, Harris went to work at the company. Coincidentally, the reports of the employee physical examinations organized by the company the previous week came out. The boss called Harris into his office alone and seriously handed him a record. Harris was shocked when he saw it. The doctor said he was infected with AIDS.

“This is nonsense! It must be another misdiagnosis!” But the boss wouldn’t listen to his explanation and announced that Harris was immediately fired because other employees were afraid of being infected.

Harris was almost mad with anger. He went to the hospital for a re – examination, and the result shocked him. He really was infected with AIDS! Harris was stunned. He couldn’t understand how he, who had always been chaste, could be infected. When Daisy heard the news, she quickly broke off the engagement. Harris was abandoned by his girlfriend twice in a short time, lost his job, and got an incurable disease. His spirit was greatly hit.

That night, Harris got dead drunk and went to the riverside. By accident, he slipped and fell into the river. When he woke up, he found that he had been saved by the famous Gypsy witch doctor in the town, old Jenny. People in the town said that old Jenny was over a hundred years old and could use divination to treat strange diseases. When Harris saw her, he seemed to grab a life – saving straw and begged her to cure his illness. But after old Jenny divined for him, she said he had no illness at all and was in very good health. Harris didn’t believe it. “You must be wrong. I have AIDS. It was diagnosed by many doctors.” Old Jenny grinned and said, “My divination is never wrong. If you don’t believe it, go for another check – up. I guarantee you’ll be fine.”

Harris went to the hospital half – believing and half – doubting. Sure enough, after the check – up, the doctor told him that he didn’t have AIDS at all. First, Harris was overjoyed, and then he got angry. It was all those stupid quacks’ misdiagnoses that made him suffer so much. So he sued those misdiagnosing doctors in court. Those doctors were all very puzzled. The test results at that time clearly showed that Harris had a serious illness. Could it be that the medical equipment malfunctioned? The hospital apologized to Harris and paid him a considerable amount of compensation.
