The Caught Fish chapter 1
by Emily MillerYamamoto was a psychologist. One day, a well – dressed man came to his private clinic. Yamamoto greeted him warmly, “Sir, I’m glad to be of service to you!”
The man showed no reaction on his face. He just coldly retorted, “Can I trust you?”
Based on his past experience, Yamamoto guessed that the man must be troubled by something annoying. So he tried to speak to him in a gentle tone, “How can I put it? I hope you understand that my duty is to help those who are suffering mentally return to a normal state through psychological treatment.”
The man hesitated for a while and then tentatively asked, “If your patient is a criminal, will you send him to the police station?”
“Rubbish!” Yamamoto shouted. “My patients have absolute privacy. Here, he is just an ordinary patient with psychological problems, that’s all. Well, sir, now you can tell me your pain without worry.”
As soon as Yamamoto finished speaking, the man immediately relaxed. He took a long breath and then told his story in detail.
The man was named Mitsuda, a bank manager. One night not long ago, he drove out with his friend Peter. On the way back, they hit a person because of the high speed. Mitsuda wanted to get out of the car to have a look, but Peter said that since it was dark and no one saw them, they should just run away. Mitsuda thought it made sense and followed Peter’s advice. However, since then, Peter often found excuses to borrow money from Mitsuda, asking for 50,000 or 100,000 at a time. If Mitsuda refused or was a bit late in giving the money, Peter would threaten to expose the car – hitting incident. The other day, Peter simply asked for 2 million, saying that he wanted to settle the matter once and for all. Mitsuda knew that Peter would never let it go easily. But if he didn’t agree, he was afraid that Peter would tell the story. So, out of desperation, he killed Peter.
Mitsuda said to Yamamoto, “Doctor, I’ve never been in such a mess. Since I killed Peter, his soul has always haunted me. As soon as I close my eyes at night, I’ll see him waving his fists to threaten me. If it goes on like this, I’ll surely go crazy. Please, doctor, save me from this pain anyway!” As he spoke, Mitsuda pressed his chest desperately with both hands and his whole body trembled constantly.
Seeing Mitsuda in such pain, Yamamoto couldn’t help feeling secretly happy. In fact, Yamamoto was a guy who often used his patients’ privacy to make money for himself. As soon as he heard that Mitsuda was a bank manager and had committed a murder, he knew that such a person was easy to manipulate. He had to keep this rich and vulnerable client and make a fortune from him.
Yamamoto took a sip of water and pretended to comfort Mitsuda casually, “Sir, I really understand your pain of not being able to live a normal life. But things aren’t that bad. Please calm down. There’s no need to blame yourself for a bastard like your friend Peter. In my opinion, your behavior is actually very brave…”
“Brave?” Mitsuda asked in surprise. “Do you think I should have killed him?”
“If it were me, I might do the same. Really,” Yamamoto said. “From an ordinary person’s perspective, I, like you, hate Peter’s behavior deeply. Peter should pay the price for his despicable actions. Maybe death is the best end for him.”
“Really?” Mitsuda asked naively like a child. His expression on his face had become much brighter than before.
Yamamoto nodded. “So from today on, you don’t need to have any sense of guilt. You should cheer up, start a new life and forget those terrible things. Please believe me, I’ll help you get through this!” After saying that, he led Mitsuda into his psychotherapy room.
From then on, Mitsuda often came to Yamamoto’s clinic. Under Yamamoto’s treatment, Mitsuda’s mental state recovered very quickly. Of course, Yamamoto also got a lot of money from Mitsuda.
