I’m determined to marry him chapter 1
by Mary PetersSpringfield is a small village at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. There are about thirty households in total. Except for the Johnson family, an outsider family, everyone else has the surname Smith. They are all related to each other, and the whole village is like a big family. Tom Smith is not only the village head but also the eldest in terms of seniority. He has absolute authority in the village.
A few days ago, Tom went to the town for a meeting. During the break, Mayor Johnson pulled him aside and kindly asked about his daughter Lily. He asked if Lily had a boyfriend. Sensing something from the mayor’s words, Tom was on alert and replied that she didn’t. Mayor Johnson laughed and said, “My son, Jack, went to school with your daughter Lily for several years. He still misses her to this day.” Tom was secretly delighted. He had met Jack, who worked at the tax office. Jack was good – looking. If his daughter married him, his own status would also rise. So, he immediately made up his mind to form this advantageous marriage alliance. Before the meeting ended, he and Mayor Johnson were already affectionately calling each other “in – law”. After that, the mayors of other big villages and the town officials immediately looked at Tom with new respect and were much more polite in their conversations.
