Leave none behind chapter 2
by Jordan LuceroJohn didn’t take the company car to Lily’s place. He took a taxi there. When he arrived at the door and was about to knock, he found the door was ajar. He thought that Lily must have known he was coming and opened the door in advance. John gently pushed the door open and entered the room. It was a suite. As soon as he entered the living room, he felt his feet sticky. Looking down, he was shocked to see it was blood! Following the bloodstains, he found that the blood was flowing from inside the room. He immediately thought of a murder case: surely Lily had been killed! What about himself? He didn’t kill anyone, but if people asked him why he was here, what could he say? Thinking of this, John immediately prepared to leave. But as he turned around and before he reached the door, he heard footsteps outside. So he quickly stepped back, opened the bathroom door, and hid inside…
John hid in the bathroom, but he wanted to know who had come in. So he gently pushed the bathroom door open a crack. The person came in, and John recognized him at a glance: Boss Tom! What was he doing here? Did he also come to see Lily? Thinking of this, John gritted his teeth in anger: Lily, Lily, I bought you a mobile phone and gave you a house, but you’re still seeing other men behind my back! But soon, John calmed down and even felt happy, because there was another suspect in the murder case to “accompany” him!
John hid behind the door, staring intently at what was going on outside. Boss Tom was the same. When he reached the door, he saw the blood and then saw that it was flowing from inside the room, so he stepped back… John guessed that Tom was going to run. He thought that if Tom ran first, he would run right after. In this way, even if the police came later, there would be both his and Tom’s footprints in the room, and neither of them could get away clean!
However, the situation developed completely beyond John’s expectation. Tom hadn’t even reached the door when he stepped back. It turned out that there were more footsteps outside. Tom stepped back, nimbly opened the bathroom door, and quickly closed it. He turned around and suddenly saw John. For a moment, he was completely stunned and couldn’t say a word. Fortunately, he was a seasoned person and quickly understood what was going on. He gracefully reached out his hand and gently shook John’s. The two looked at each other and smiled knowingly, then both turned their heads towards the crack in the door: they were eager to know who the next person to come in would be!
Then, another man came in. John and Tom in the bathroom recognized him as Director David from the Development Office. At this time, both of their faces fell, and they were both cursing in their hearts: This little slut, how many men is she seeing? But then they thought again and smiled: Isn’t this great? There’s one more person to “accompany” them! Director David is nearsighted and didn’t see the blood on the ground. So he walked into the room. Just then, a young man rushed in from outside. The young man pointed to the blood on the ground and asked David, “What’s going on here?”
David stammered, “I… I… I don’t know either…”
The young man walked into the room. After a while, he rushed out shouting like a madman, grabbed David, and shouted angrily, “Why did you kill my sister? Come on, go to the police station with me!” David panicked. When he walked to the room door and saw that the bed was covered in blood and Lily was lying on the bloody bedding, Lily’s younger brother tried to drag David to the police station, but David refused to go. After a few minutes of stalemate, David was so anxious that he started to cry. He said, “I really didn’t kill your sister. With my status, I can’t go to the police station. I know you need money to handle the aftermath and find the murderer. Well, I have fifty thousand dollars here. You take it first. If it’s not enough later, I’ll give you more.” Lily’s younger brother took the bankbook, looked at the amount, and when he looked up, David was gone.
When John and Tom in the bathroom saw what had just happened, they immediately knew what to do. John took out a bankbook from his pocket, pushed open the bathroom door, and walked out. Lily’s younger brother was very surprised to see a man suddenly come out of the bathroom. John stepped forward and said, “Your idea of using money to find the murderer is good. I also have fifty thousand dollars here. Use it as your funds.” Lily’s younger brother took John’s bankbook, counted the zeros, and when he looked up, John had also disappeared.
At this time, Tom in the bathroom started rummaging through his pockets. There was no bankbook. He remembered the watch on his wrist, which was worth over a hundred thousand dollars. But now he couldn’t care less. He just wanted to get out of this room. Thinking of this, Tom pushed open the door and walked out. He handed the watch to Lily’s younger brother and said, “This watch is worth over a hundred thousand dollars. You can sell it to use as funds to find the murderer.” Then, while Lily’s younger brother was still in a daze, Tom slipped away.
After the three men left, Lily’s younger brother opened all the doors in the room to make sure there was no one else. Then he shouted loudly into the room, “Sister, get up!”
“Okay—” Lily sat up from the blood – stained bed and walked out lightly. She took the bankbook and the watch from the young man’s hand, looked at them, and said, “Tomorrow, you sell this house, and let’s go.”
“That won’t do,” the young man said as he took out a small notebook from his pocket and pointed to the names on it. “Sister, look, there are still ten more people on the list. Let’s wait until we’ve found all of them before we leave.”
Lily thought for a while and said, “Okay, then I’ll listen to you. But where can we get the blood?”
Lily’s younger brother smiled easily and said, “That’s easy. There’s still a big bucket of pig’s blood under the bed.” So Lily took the small notebook and started making phone calls again…
