They walked through the forest and meadows together, watched the blue sky and white clouds, and saw the colorful butterflies flying. It was the first time in Archer’s life that he had such a sweet feeling. One day, Archer accidentally saw a fur band on his arm. It was made of wolf fur and was left by his great – grandmother. He suddenly woke up: It’s time to go home!

By the brook, Archer whispered to the ewe, “Let’s go upstream. The water there is the sweetest.” They walked and walked until he led the ewe to a cave. Archer said, “Let’s go inside and have some fun.” The ewe in love obediently followed him.

Archer led the ewe into the cave. When the mother wolf saw Archer coming back, she was overjoyed. She rushed forward, hugged him, and licked him. With tears in her eyes, she said, “You’re finally back, my son. I thought you were caught by the hunters.”

At this time, the ewe realized something was wrong, but it was too late. The mother wolf pushed her down with one paw, quickly closed the cave door, bared her big teeth, and was ready to eat her. Archer trembled inside. Looking at the ewe who had given him her first kiss, his heart ached. He decided to find a chance to let her go home. He thought for a while and said to the mother wolf, “Mom, please keep her for one more night. Let me do something for her before she dies.”

That night, Archer secretly untied the ropes on the ewe and resolutely opened the door. Suddenly, the mother wolf appeared. She slapped Archer hard and shouted angrily, “You good – for – nothing! I knew you were smitten with her. You’ve forgotten the lesson of our great – grandmother. When she fell in love with a hunting dog, she didn’t listen to the advice and finally lost her life at the hands of the hunter. Look at the fur band on your arm. It’s made of great – grandmother’s fur. This is a warning! Remember, a wolf is a wolf. You must kill your opponent, or you won’t have a chance to survive!”

The mother wolf bit off one of the ewe’s feet. Archer was both angry and anxious. He rushed forward and pushed his mother hard. Unexpectedly, he used too much force, and the mother wolf fell heavily to the ground, her limbs twitching, foaming at the mouth, and groaning, “Ouch, it hurts so much. I’m going to die…” The other wolf brothers were at a loss, and Archer was also so scared that he didn’t know what to do. At this time, the ewe spoke up, “Our family is familiar with all kinds of herbs. I know there is a kind of herb that can cure the injury.”

The eldest brother glanced at the ewe and said, “Don’t listen to her sweet talk, brothers. Be on guard against her!” Archer looked at her and then at his mother in great pain and said, “Let’s go together to pick the herb. Keep an eye on her. How can she run away?”

So, a group of wolves escorted the ewe to pick the herb. After they brought the herb back home, the mother wolf took it, and her pain soon subsided. Archer looked at the ewe gratefully and took the opportunity to say to his mother, “The ewe has done a good deed. Let her go.”

The mother wolf looked at her son helplessly and finally nodded in agreement. However, the rules of the wolf clan were strict, and they couldn’t let her go openly. The mother wolf asked Archer to send a message to the sheep in the red house, asking them to come to Twenty – four Grass Slope the next morning to pick up the ewe. Archer didn’t dare to delay and quickly sent the message to the red house.

The next morning, Archer and the ewe set off for Twenty – four Grass Slope with heavy hearts. The wind was howling a sad song. Archer looked at the ewe’s limping foot and thought about whether they would ever meet again. Liquid like dew fell from his eyes, and he didn’t know it was tears.

Twenty – four Grass Slope was not big, surrounded by green trees. Archer brought the ewe to a meadow and sat her down. He wanted to watch her graze one last time.

Soon, the ewe’s family came. The ewe nestled in her mother’s arms, and the mother and daughter hugged each other and cried bitterly. Suddenly, a group of wolves rushed out like arrows. The mother wolf and her nine sons were all there. They caught the ewe’s family off – guard. Archer shouted at the mother wolf crazily, “I hate you! You broke your promise. You used me…”

The mother wolf laughed loudly and said, “A wolf is always a wolf. A wolf can’t have friends, let alone love. Our ultimate goal is to defeat the enemy! Great – grandmother, I’ve avenged you. Hahaha…”

Before the mother wolf’s laughter died down, suddenly, there were several gunshots. The hunters appeared out of nowhere. The mother wolf and her sons all fell in a pool of blood. Archer, seriously injured, crawled in front of the ewe and asked, “I really love you. For you, I could wear a sheepskin forever and stay with you. But now… Why is all this happening?”

The ewe smiled bitterly and said, “I also love you, but the family rules passed down for thousands of years say that sheep can’t be friends with wolves…”

Archer was very sad. He jumped up suddenly and rushed towards the ewe – he wanted to be with her forever. But at this moment, “Bang -” a gunshot rang out. Archer was shot in the heart by the hunter. The hunter who fired the shot said contemptuously, “A wolf is a wolf. It can never change its nature of wanting to eat sheep!”

However, only the ewe knew that Archer’s last rush was to kiss her one last time, just like the first time. Tears streamed down her face, and she silently prayed in her heart, “Don’t hate me. If you have to hate, hate this fateful kiss. It shouldn’t have happened because you are a wolf after all, and I’m a sheep in the end…”
