Those Who Broke the Rules chapter 3
by Stephanie GonzalezWho is Brother Mott
Not long after, Tom arrived in a taxi. From a distance, Tom stretched out his hand and said with a smiling face, “I’m really sorry. I’ve been too busy these days. How have you been recently?” David sneered and said, “Thanks to you, I’m still alive. God took pity on me and let me meet Brother Mott!” Tom awkwardly rubbed his hands and said, “I didn’t know you were Brother Mott’s friend. How about this? I’ll return all the goods to you, but you have to leave this place immediately.”
“So you admit that you took that batch of mobile phones! I didn’t expect any return when I saved you back then, but I never thought you would harm me. I advise you to change your name. Don’t call yourself Tom. Call yourself a villain!”
Tom shrugged indifferently and said, “This is the rule of the game. In the underworld, one can’t help oneself. Well, do you agree or not?”
David laughed, took out his phone from his pocket, and said proudly, “If I let you go, who knows how many more people will be deceived by you. I’ve recorded your words with the phone’s recording function. I’m going to hand it over to the police and let them talk to you.”
Tom was stunned and said, “This is an agreement I reached with Brother Mott,” and then he emphasized his tone, “It’s what Brother Mott said.”
When David thought of Brother Mott, he felt a warm feeling in his heart. Although he still didn’t know Brother Mott’s real identity, judging from his ability to make Tom return the goods, he must not be an ordinary person. Maybe he was really a mafia boss. Since he had reached this agreement with Tom, it meant he didn’t want to make this matter a big deal. David had watched a lot of police – and – gangster movies and knew that the underworld also had its own rules. Well, let it be. It was like repaying this kind – hearted Brother Mott.
He gritted his teeth, deleted the recording in front of Tom, and said angrily, “I’ll let you go today, but as long as you keep doing this, there will surely be someone to deal with you!”
Tom just smiled and said nothing.
Soon, David got all the goods back and went to the police station to cancel the case.
David transported the goods back home. Although he was severely criticized by his boss, he still kept his job. From then on, David learned his lesson and swore not to drink anymore.
Three months later, David transported another batch of goods to that city. After a smooth delivery, he rented a room in a motel to rest. Thinking about his experience in this city a few months ago, David couldn’t fall asleep. So he turned on the TV.
The local TV station was broadcasting a news report about a fight within a gang that made a living by cheating delivery drivers. One person was killed.
During the interview, the murderer said that their gang was divided into two factions. One was led by Tom, and the other was led by him. Three months ago, Tom cheated a batch of mobile phones. After he heard about it, in order to take credit, he rushed to get the mobile phones first. According to their rules, anyone could grab the goods before they were in someone’s hands, but once they were in someone’s hands, it was like they were stamped and no one else could touch them. But Tom deliberately wanted to break the rules and tried every means to get the mobile phones back and return them to the driver. He held a grudge and killed Tom.
David was stunned. He trembled as he turned off the TV and went outside to get some fresh air. Unexpectedly, he saw Brother Mott right away. He was rummaging through the garbage for food. David quickly stepped forward to say hello. Brother Mott still remembered him and kept looking at the nearby restaurant. David took him there and ordered a bottle of wine for Brother Mott. While he was drinking happily, David asked about Tom. Brother Mott closed his cloudy eyes and thought for a long time before saying, “I remember. At that time, I was begging. The person you mentioned came over and gave me a hundred dollars and asked me to say those words to you…”
Suddenly, David understood everything. Brother Mott was not the old beggar in front of him. It was Tom!
Tom probably didn’t expect that it was David who came to deliver the goods. Maybe at the moment of meeting, he had already decided to give up this “business”. But he didn’t expect that his accomplice would suddenly come out and rob the mobile phones. This made him feel very guilty, so he took all the risks to get the mobile phones back. Afraid that David would have trouble if he knew the truth, he made up the story of “Brother Mott”.
Tom was not a good person, but he always remembered David’s kindness in saving his life. For this reason, he lost his life.
David felt a complex mix of emotions that he couldn’t express. With tears in his eyes, he shouted, “Boss, add another wine glass.”
