Unexpected Encounter

One day, truck driver David received a dispatch from his company to transport a batch of mobile phones to a neighboring state.

After a day and night of driving, he finally reached his destination. It was a bustling city, and David was unfamiliar with the area. Afraid of taking a wrong turn, he parked his truck in a parking lot and called the recipient, asking them to come and lead the way. The recipient said they would immediately send someone and a vehicle to unload the goods on – site.

A dozen minutes later, the person from the other side arrived. When David saw him, he couldn’t help but smile. It was Tom! Tom also spotted him, paused for a moment, and then showed a surprised and delighted expression.

David and Tom had a special relationship. Two years ago, one evening, David was on his way home when he saw several dark figures beating up a man. He immediately recognized it as a robbery by local hooligans. So, he bluffed and shouted, “Police are coming!” The hooligans fled at the sound. The man being beaten was Tom.

At that time, Tom had a high fever, and now he had many new injuries. David took him to the hospital and took good care of him for several days.

After Tom was discharged from the hospital, he said gratefully, “Brother David, I’ll never forget your great kindness. I’ll definitely repay you.” David just smiled. He was the kind of person who would always help those in need without expecting anything in return…

Tom was just a passer – by at that time, and there had been no news of him for more than two years. Now, suddenly meeting in such a situation, both of them were surprised and overjoyed. Tom tightly held David’s hand and said, “Brother David, I’ve always been thinking about you, but I’ve been too busy to come and see you in person. Now that you’re here, come on, I’ll treat you to a big meal!”

David was worried about the safety of the goods, so he said, “There’s no rush for the meal. You should check the goods first, and then we can have a good drink!”

Tom pretended to be annoyed and said, “Look at what you’re saying. Do you think I don’t trust you? Let’s eat first and then check the goods!” With that, he left two people to guard the truck and pulled David into a big hotel. He ordered a full table of dishes and opened several bottles of good wine, saying they should get drunk. Since the goods had been safely delivered, David also drank heartily.

After everyone was full and satisfied, Tom pulled David’s hand and walked out of the hotel. David just wanted Tom to receive the goods quickly so that he could go to a motel and have a good sleep. But when they got to the truck, they saw the two guards lying on the ground, and the several boxes of mobile phones on the truck were empty. David was so scared that his soul almost left his body. The alcohol in him immediately wore off. He quickly woke up the two guards and asked them what had happened. They both said they didn’t know what was going on and suddenly passed out.

David was stunned and sat down on the ground. Losing so many mobile phones, he couldn’t afford to pay for them even if he sold himself! Looking at Tom standing there expressionlessly, a thought suddenly popped into his mind: Could it be him who did this?

When the police received the report, their first reaction was to suspect Tom. They examined the two guards and found that there was indeed the ingredient of a knockout drug in their blood. Of course, this could also be their act of feigning injury. But since there was no evidence, the police had to ask David to find a place to stay first.

David checked into a motel, feeling extremely angry. He wanted to question Tom, but found that he had disappeared. When he called Tom, the phone was always off. David, who had only suspected him before, was now completely sure.

The company was very angry when they heard about this. David knew that if he couldn’t get the batch of mobile phones back, he wouldn’t be able to go home…
