{{The Pain of a Meritorious Police Dog

Tom is a police dog trainer. The dog he trains is called “Max”, a majestic pure – bred German dog. One day, Tom received an urgent order and took Max to carry out a mission. When they arrived at the crime scene, the gangster was holding a hostage and confronting the police with a gun. The suspect had a dozen lives on his back and was a fierce character wanted by the police for many years. Seeing that escape was hopeless, he was ready to fight the police to the death.

Due to the critical situation, the superior had no choice but to make the decision to let the police dog launch a surprise attack. So the task fell on Max, the most outstanding dog in the police dog training brigade.

Max accurately received Tom’s instructions. It lurked through the green belt behind the suspect, circled to his west side. Just as the suspect was about to pull the trigger, Max pounced on him like a flash, biting his right hand holding the pistol with one bite, and then shook its head, knocking the gun off. Max landed on its hind paws first. Before it seemed to steady itself, it twisted its body lightning – fast, leaped into the air, and knocked the guy down. Then it skillfully pressed the suspect’s two strong arms firmly with its front paws, baring its sharp teeth and barking wildly at his throat. The cold – blooded killer was so scared that he kept begging for mercy: “I surrender! Don’t let the dog bite me!”

The process of capturing the bandit was really exciting. Even those battle – hardened police officers commented like this: “It’s like watching a Hollywood blockbuster. It’s a bit too amazing!” Max really made a great contribution this time. It not only saved the hostage but also brought the evil – doer to justice.

When the police officers were collecting evidence, they picked up half a broken dog tooth beside the pistol. Only then did they know that Max had actually broken its intimidating canine tooth in order to knock off the gun.

Finally, after a meeting, the organization decided that since Max had made great contributions in this operation, it would be specially commended and awarded the title of “Meritorious Police Dog”. On the day of the award ceremony, Max behaved a bit abnormally. It didn’t bare its teeth and stick out its tongue like usual. Instead, it kept its mouth tightly shut. Even when it opened its mouth occasionally, it never showed its teeth. Especially when taking pictures, it didn’t even open its mouth. Only its intimidating eyes and the medal around its neck sparkled in the sun. Tom understood its behavior. He said: “Max is just like a human being. It also wants to cover up its ugliness!”

Actually, Max had made many contributions before. It was a well – deserved meritorious dog. But after this mission, Max often shook its head and let out “whining” sounds, looking very painful. Tom was extremely heart – broken. He took Max to see a doctor. After an examination, they found that it was the broken tooth that was causing the problem. It had irritated the nerve, and even if it was filled, it wouldn’t work. Max could no longer perform tasks normally. There was no other way but to retire it…

According to the convention, the police officer who takes care of a retired police dog should keep it until it dies. In fact, even without this convention, Tom would do so. His wife died of difficult childbirth many years ago, and he never remarried. So Tom simply took a long – term leave and took Max home. He served it with good food and drink every day. One man and one dog lived quite comfortably.

Although everyone said that Max’s tooth couldn’t be cured, Tom still kept thinking about filling it. But somehow, Max was very dissatisfied with this. It just wouldn’t let the veterinarian touch its mouth. The veterinarian had to plan to give it an anesthetic injection. At this, Tom felt heart – broken again. He stared wide – eyed and said: “No! You can give me an injection, but not it!” The people in the hospital laughed when they heard this and said: “It’s not you who needs a tooth filling. Why do you need an anesthetic?” Anyway, the matter of filling the tooth ended up in nothing…
