My Darling Silly Uncle chapter 3
by Amanda Villanueva“Rae, you’re here. I knew you’d come!” he said with a silly smile. Jack was shocked when he heard the uncle call his mother like this. His mother’s name was Rae, but he had never heard anyone call her so tenderly before.
“I knew you were waiting for me here. How could I not come?” his mother said softly.
Jack’s father stepped forward to help the uncle up. The uncle stood up with difficulty. Somehow, his legs went weak, and he almost fell. Jack’s father bent down to roll up his trouser legs and saw that his legs were swollen badly.
Jack’s face flushed instantly. It was at least a hundred miles from the place where the uncle got lost. He wondered how the uncle had run back. Jack remembered that there was still a pack of cigarettes in his pocket, so he took it out and gave it to the uncle. The uncle was extremely excited when he saw the cigarettes. He took out a few and handed them around. “Smoke, smoke. I can smoke. These are good cigarettes!”
Taking this opportunity, Jack said to his mother, “We’ve found the uncle. I think he’s quite used to living in the hometown. Why don’t we just let him stay here? You and Dad can come back to see him when you have time…”
Before Jack finished speaking, his father was unhappy. He scolded, “Your uncle got lost while saving you, and you still want to leave him here alone. How can you be so heartless, boy!”
Jack couldn’t stand it anymore. The dissatisfaction he had been holding in his heart couldn’t help but burst out. “Did he save me? It was just for a few cigarettes! What’s so good about a mentally – challenged man? It’s worth you guys supporting him every day! You’re not ashamed, but I am!”
Hearing this, Jack’s father was so angry that he trembled all over and raised his hand to hit Jack. His mother quickly stood between them and cried to Jack, “Son, you’re not a child anymore. It’s time you knew some things… You said the uncle didn’t save you? I’ll tell you. This is already the second time he’s saved you!”
Jack stared at his mother in surprise with wide – open eyes. His mother let out a long sigh and said, “Your uncle knew me a long time ago…”
As she said this, a sweet and tender look appeared on his mother’s face, as if she had returned to the past.
