Getting Lost

When Jack ran to the train, the train driver had already got off and asked, “What happened?” Jack quickly stepped forward. He saw that the flashlight in the uncle’s hand was on, emitting a glaring red light. Jack took it and found that it was wet, and it was actually blood! It turned out that the uncle had bitten his finger and smeared the blood on the flashlight to make a “red light” that the driver could easily notice, thus stopping the train.

For a moment, Jack’s eyes became a little moist. It was the uncle who had saved his life! He didn’t expect that the uncle would be so alert and brave at the critical moment…

“Give me a cigarette!” Suddenly, the uncle stretched out his hand to the train driver. The driver was stunned and didn’t know what was going on. The uncle continued, “When I stop a car, people give me good cigarettes. Your train is so long. You should at least give me a pack!”

At this time, the driver could tell that he was a mentally – challenged man and retorted, “You stopped the train just for cigarettes?”

“Hehe… Otherwise, why would I stop the train?” the uncle said, sticking out his neck.

Jack almost fainted when he heard this. So it was still for cigarettes. Alas, a mentally – challenged man was still a mentally – challenged man. Jack didn’t have time to listen to the uncle’s nonsense. He quickly apologized to the driver with a smile and said a lot of good words. Only then did the driver get back on the train, still angry.

Watching the train gradually disappear in the distance, Jack was about to go back. When he turned around, he found that the uncle was gone. He called out a few times, but there was no answer. He searched around nearby, but there was still no sign of the uncle. Unexpectedly, the uncle was really lost. Jack couldn’t tell what he was feeling. After thinking for a while, he decided to go home first.

As soon as they heard that the uncle was missing, Jack’s parents were immediately in a panic. They immediately went out with Jack to look for him all night. After searching for most of the night, they didn’t find him. Jack was a little discouraged, but his parents refused to give up. After thinking for a while, Jack’s mother suddenly asked his father in a soft voice, “Do you think he might have gone back?” His father said, “You mean he went back to his hometown, Pine Creek?” His mother nodded. “Yes, after all, there are some memories he can’t forget there…” Jack noticed that his mother’s face was a little red when she said this, but his father seemed not to notice and said, “Okay, we’ll go back to our hometown tomorrow!”

Early the next morning, the three of them arrived at their hometown. They learned from the nearby villagers that someone had indeed seen a mentally – challenged man walking towards Pine Creek this morning. An old villager reminded Jack’s mother, “Think carefully about where you used to meet him often. Could he be there?” Jack’s mother thought for a while and suddenly realized. She said, “I know. He must be there!” Then she walked quickly, and the others followed closely behind. After crossing a mountain ridge, a forest appeared in front of them. Jack’s mother carefully inspected each tree, muttering, “He’s here. He’s really here!”

What marks were there on the trees? Jack stepped forward to take a closer look and finally found that there was a small flower carved with a branch on several trees. The stamen pointed deep into the forest, and Jack’s mother and the others were walking in the direction the stamen pointed. After walking a short distance, everyone stopped. Jack squeezed in and saw that it was indeed the uncle sitting on the ground. After not seeing him for two days, he looked even more haggard. His hair was messy, and his face was dirty, but his two eyes were surprisingly bright. At this moment, he was fixedly looking at Jack’s mother, with a happy look in his eyes.
