The Wise Ones chapter 2
by Samantha WhitakerAt this time, Mr. Blake spoke with a straight face. “Anderson, do you know that something unpleasant has happened in the company?”
“What a pity,” Anderson gave Pfir a sympathetic glance, then turned to the boss and said, “Mr. Blake, can you tell me what it is?”
Mr. Blake gave a cold snort. Pfir beside him also timidly spoke up. “Anderson, you surely know about this. I think you can handle it well.” As he said this, Pfir even covered his face and sobbed. Mr. Blake walked over and gently patted Pfir on the shoulder. “Stop crying. You can’t help him with this, but I guarantee that as long as Anderson corrects his mistakes, I’ll deal with him leniently.” Then, Mr. Blake turned around and said coldly, “Anderson, maybe you did something stupid out of a moment’s confusion. If you’re willing to return all the money you stole, I won’t pursue this matter. Of course, from now on, you’re fired!”
Anderson felt his throat go dry. He realized that his deed had been exposed. He opened his mouth, but couldn’t say a word.
“Well? Are you going to return the money?” As he said this, Mr. Blake handed a document to Anderson. “Fifteen thousand dollars. I’ll give you three days.”
Anderson was stunned. “Wh… What? Fifteen thousand dollars? You’ve made a mistake. I only took two thousand. The rest was taken by Pfir. I swear!”
The policeman shook his head and said, “We have evidence. Last night, Pfir and another colleague accidentally saw you walking out of the finance department in a hurry. Out of responsibility to the company, he reported this to Mr. Blake and the accountant. After the audit, it was found that exactly fifteen thousand dollars was missing from the safe. Mr. Blake then reported the case to the police. Through technical means, we found your fingerprints on the safe.”
Mr. Blake turned around in disgust and said, “Anderson, you’ve gone too far! You clearly stole the money, yet you keep denying it and even try to shift the blame onto the kind – hearted Pfir. The company is ashamed to have someone like you!”
Pfir looked extremely sad, and his eye – circles were a bit red. He wiped the corners of his eyes as if to wipe away the welling tears. After a while, he walked up to Mr. Blake and said, “Mr. Blake, please give Anderson a chance. Maybe he really has his own difficulties…”
Only then did Anderson realize that he had fallen into Pfir’s trap. He angrily lunged at Pfir, but the policeman beside him quickly grabbed his hands and handcuffed him.
“Let me go, you stupid pigs! Pfir, you stole the money and framed me. I’ll kill you, you damned guy!” Anderson struggled desperately, but was soon taken away by the police…
No one would believe what Anderson said…
